Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on July 21, 2025:
Community Safety Officer (CSO) – the CSO has started activity in Lanigan over the past couple of weeks. The program focuses on public education and voluntary compliance. There will be formal enforcement of bylaws where necessary and much more information will follow on this program in the coming weeks.
Daycare Project – As you will see, construction of the new daycare facility is moving forward with initial foundation working taking place. Construction activity on site will ramp up in the coming days/weeks.
2024 Financial Statements – Council approved the draft 2024 Financial Statements, which will be posted on the town website and print copies available for those interested. The fiscal year 2024 was busy with operating and capital projects and it finished off in a successful manner financially.
Development Opportunities – Council approved land sales for the construction of two duplexes and a multifamily development. There will be more information available as the terms and conditions are satisfied and these projects move forward.
Traffic Control Bylaw – The Traffic Control Bylaw was amended to enable Council to make changes to the bylaw schedules by Council resolution rather than bylaw amendment.
Lanigan Elementary School Outdoor Learning Space – Council approved a $1,000 Silver Sponsorship for the Lanigan Elementary School Outdoor Learning Space.
Rail Safety Week – Council has proclaimed September 15-21, 2025 as Rail Safety Week. More information will be published on this soon.
Zoning Amendment Bylaw – a public hearing was conducted for the zoning amendment bylaw No. 7/2025 to enable multiple buildings on a “R2”Medium Density Residential District, which there was no representation for or against the proposed bylaw. The amendment bylaw was granted 2nd and 3rd reading following the public hearing.
Royal Canadian Legion – Council approved two handicap (accessible) parking spaces in front of the Lanigan Legion on Main Street. Modifications to the curb and sidewalk will be made to ensure accessibility.
