Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on May 12, 2025:
- RCMP S/Sgt Rodney Rudnisky attended to review first quarter statistics for 2025 and review the Annual Performance Plan Initiatives for 2025/2026. The Humboldt/Lanigan detachments now have 13 Members, which cover a significant geographic area. Council relayed concerns about the need for RCMP presence in the community and the changing dynamic of less community involvement.
- MSMA Executive Director Barry Morishita attended to provide an overview of the recent Housing Needs Assessment completed by Wallace Insights on behalf of the Mid Sask Municipal Alliance (MSMA). The housing needs assessment is helpful when working with potential developers as it demonstrates demographics, historical patterns and projects future potential for new housing development in Lanigan. The Housing Needs Assessment is available on the town websites (lanigan.ca and thriveinlanigan.ca).
- Mayor and Council approved the Discretionary Use for a daycare facility to be developed on the former swimming pool and tennis court site without conditions. All site development details will be dealt with through the final development permit approval process following successful bidder selection.
- Lanigan Water Park – final work on the new waterslide will wrap up this week and be commissioned for use accordingly. We are all excited about the full completion of the facility that will be operational for the season starting June 1st! By the way, recent rumours circulating about the new pool failing, or walls collapsing or the bottom of the pool sinking are entirely false.
Daycare Project Update: The RFP (Request for Proposals) to build the new daycare facility closed on April 30, 2025 with eight (8) proposals received. A request for clarification from bidders ends on May 14th, then a detailed evaluation will take place the week of May 19th. We continue to target a construction start in June 2025.
Old Swimming Pool Demolition: Demolition of the old swimming pool structures and tennis court is completed, and the site is now ready for construction of the new daycare facility.
Reminder - Next regular Council meeting will be Monday, May 26, 2025 at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers at the Town Office.
