Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on June 23, 2025:
Community Safety Officer (CSO) – Council approved an agreement for services with the City of Humboldt to supply the Town of Lanigan with CSO services. CSO services offer a higher level of bylaw enforcement to the Town of Lanigan. The primary objective is achievement of voluntary compliance when there are bylaw infractions. However, CSO’s will have the authority to issue tickets and prosecute if and when necessary. CSOs also have the authority to enforce moving traffic violations and will work closely with RCMP where needed.
Daycare Sod Turning Ceremony – Council approved temporary closure of Munster Street adjacent to the new daycare facility project to enable a sod turning ceremony and fundraiser BBQ for the new day dare facility on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The temporary street closure will take place between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM to allow for set up and dismantle of the event.
Extension to Time to Complete Financial Statement – Council passed a bylaw to grant an extension of time to complete the 2024 financial statements to July 31, 2025. The Town of Lanigan has been waiting on two groups to submit financial information to complete the 2024 financial statements.
Development Opportunities – Council provided direction to Administration on various matters related to land sales, leases and development opportunities.
Traffic Control Bylaw – with the opening of the new school, there is a significant change to traffic patterns in the vicinity, especially on Commercial Drive. Council directed the Administration to prepare a bylaw amendment to enable Council to revise traffic control signage by resolution. This matter will be further discussed at the next meeting.
Business Forum – The recent business forum was well attended by local businesses, and we appreciate the engagement with our business community. There will be much more to follow on the results – stay tuned!
Office and Operations Closure – the Town of Lanigan Administration Office and Operations will be closed Monday, June 30, 2025 as staff will be utilizing vacation and/or banked time to create a four-day weekend with July 1st being on the following Tuesday.
