Council Meeting Highlights (August 18, 2025)

Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on August 18, 2025:

  • Council approved a $500.00 donation to STARS, which Council consider them vital service to our community and surrounding area.
  • Council has approved a “no parking zone” on Dvernichuk Street from the new school site to Commercial Drive and on Commercial Drive from Munster Street to the Hwy 16 access onto Commercial Drive for safety and maintenance reasons. “No Parking” signs will be installed in this area and the “no parking zone” will be enforced through Bylaw Enforcement. There are concerns about limited parking space availability on the new school site and these concerns will be relayed to the Horizon School Division.
  • Council has approved a Concept Plan for the development of “Parcel K”, which is the land south of the waterpark facility. A subdivision application will be filed, and servicing plans are in the works to develop a mixed housing area (low to medium density residential) at this location. There will be more to follow on this as Council will be reviewing next steps to deal with the camper storage area in the near future.
  • Council has adopted a new Council Code of Ethics bylaw that was prepared in collaboration and consultation with legal counsel. The new bylaw is more fulsome in content, expectations and process than the previous bylaw, which is now repealed.
  • Council has adopted a Public Conduct Policy bylaw that was prepared in collaboration and consultation with legal counsel. This bylaw sets out the expectations for public conduct and behavior on or in all Town of Lanigan facilities. There is zero tolerance for abusive and/or harassing behavior.
  • Council has adopted a Saskatchewan Emergency Vehicle Operations Bylaw, which will enable volunteer firefighters to equip their personal vehicles with approved device(s) for public awareness while responding to an emergency call.
  • More residential lots have been sold for residential duplex development in Lanigan, and the Town of Lanigan will be proceeding to construct a new duplex for health care housing. More on these happenings via the Lanigan Lowdown – Mayor’s Snapshot next week!

Note: All the new bylaws described in this highlight will be available to review and/or download from the Town of Lanigan website www.lanigan.ca. Print copies can also be obtained at the Town Office if preferred.
