
The Council of the Town of Lanigan held a regular meeting on July 8, 2024, and following are highlights of the meeting:
- Mayor and Council accepted staff reports as presented, which included an update of current operational work activities, such as but not limited to:
- Recreation survey and review of a few recreation programming opportunities
- Celebrate Lanigan positive outcomes
- Current staffing with training and cross training taking place
- Continuation of pothole patching
- Sidewalk and curb repairs, catch basin replacement and paving projects
- Old swimming pool demolition
- Lanigan air strip maintenance
- Commissionaires contracted to assist with bylaw enforcement
- Mayor and Council undertook a detailed review of financial results as at June 30, 2024 due to being at the midpoint of the operating year.
- Mayor and Council authorized cancellation of the August 12, 2024 regular meeting due to vacation scheduling.
- The Auditor will be presenting audit results and the 2023 financial statements to Council at the August 26, 2024 council meeting and a bylaw to authorize extension of time to complete the 2023 financial statement has been approved by Mayor and Council.
- Mayor and Council gave first reading to Bylaw 9/2024 to rezone a portion of Parcel A, Plan C4715 #xt., Plan 65H05104 from FUD – Future Urban Development to R2 – Medium Density Residential District, and set the public hearing for August 26, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Council also authorized Administration to engage a surveyor to subdivide a portion of Parcel A as another step toward development readiness for the Town of Lanigan. This area of land is located south of and adjacent to the Vets Home subdivision.
- Property tax notices will be issued sometime during the week of July 15th or shortly thereafter with the discount for early payment available to the end of August. There will be a separate public communication issued on this matter this week.
