Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great summer as we move into fall.
On Sept 9th, I had the pleasure of meeting our newest doctor, Dr Roya Havai. Dr Havai has come to Lanigan from Preeceville, and she is the replacement doctor for Dr Nan. Dr Havai and I met at the town office, and I then took her for a tour of Lanigan to show her all Lanigan has to offer. We then finished up at the duplex where she will be living. It was great getting to know Dr Havai and she is very excited to be starting her practice in Lanigan. On behalf of Lanigan, we want to welcome Dr Havai to our community!
I want to give a big thankyou to Dr Nan for her 3 years of dedicated service to health care in Lanigan. Dr Nan has been great in the transition with Dr Havai by helping with Locum coverage in Lanigan for the month of September. We wish her well in her future endeavours.
On September 10th I got some other great news for the community as you know we had received funding for a third doctor in Lanigan. Dr Honey Adibi will be joining our team sometime at the end of January/beginning of February. This is great news for Lanigan and surrounding area residents. This brings us another step closer to having the Lanigan hospital open 24/7 as well as giving doctors the ability to have a 3 in 1 schedule rather than a 2 in 1 schedule to cover the ER, which will help with a better work-life balance for all. All 3 doctors Dr Askari, Dr Havai, Dr Adibi as well as NP Cassandra Leggott will be seeing patients at the medical clinic as well as coverage at the hospital. This has been a long process, however there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Also, on Sept 10th I had the privilege to attend 2 medal ceremonies for some well deserving Lanigan Residents. The first award was for the King Chales III Coronation Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Lanigan Resident Brad Wildeman was the recipient of this prestigious award for his dedicated years of service in the cattle industry. Brad was integral part of Pound-Maker Ag Ventures for 35 years and served as President of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association for 2 years. On behalf of the Town of Lanigan, I want to congratulate Brad on receiving this much deserved award. I also enjoyed meeting Brad’s 2 grandchildren Charlotte and William. William is not shy at all - he told me that what Lanigan needs is a ski hill because he loves skiing.
The second award ceremony was the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal. This award is given out for a minimum of 25 years of service and most of the Lanigan Fire department nominees have much more than 25 years of service. It is way past due that these 8 long term Lanigan Fire department members were honored for their countless years of dedicated service to Lanigan.
Without great individuals like this, we would not have such an amazing, well-trained Fire Department that we depend on in Lanigan. On Behalf of the Town of Lanigan I want to congratulate these Medal Winners - Fire Chief Barry Hooper, Deputy Fire Chief Rod Greve, members Lloyd Greve, Murray Greve, Murray Gibney, Bill Parker, Kirby Mesenchuk and Perry Bryksa. Not all members were able to attend the medal presentation. We will get a picture of all these dedicated individuals at a later date. Pictured with myself are Fire Chief Barry Hooper and Member Lloyd Greve.
Regards and hope to see you all around town.
- Mayor Tony Mycock
