Council Meeting Highlights (October 14, 2025)

Following are highlights from the regular meeting of Town Council held on October 14, 2025: 

  • Mayor and Council received presentations from SUMAssure and Long Lake Insurance for insurance proposals for 2026. Clarification will be sought from each proponent with a final decision to be made at the October 27, 2025 regular Council meeting.
  • Mayor and Council passed a resolution to lobby the federal government, while stressing the importance of retaining a Canada Post facility in Lanigan.
  • Mayor and Council authorized an expenditure of up to $5,000.00 to support interior painting at the Lanigan Library.
  • Mayor and Council approved a request from MSMA (Mid Sask Municipal Alliance) for additional funding contribution of $3,677.08 for the balance of 2025 fiscal year. MSMA has been instrumental in assisting its member municipalities with various grant funding applications and strategic preparation for growth. 
  • Administration engaged Council in discussion related to various options to continue operating the concession at the arena. Volunteerism and/or interest in volunteering continues to decline as it has for the past few decades in most communities. Alternative service delivery methods for the arena concession operations is under consideration.
  • Administration reviewed Strategic Priorities with Council, providing an update on implementation action plans. Council priorities will be further reviewed following the October 22nd Help Plan the Future event.
  • A three-year operating budget (2026-2028) and five-year capital budget (2026-2030) are under development and will be presented to Council in November 2025 for approval in or by December 2025.
  • Subdivided lots are now created and titles available to purchase by existing tenants in Triland Court. Mayor and Council approved the sale of two lots based on values established by a professional property appraisal.
