Lanigan Lowdown: Mayor's Snapshot (August 25, 2025)

I want to bring everyone up to date on what is happening in Lanigan as we have a lot of very exciting things on the go as we move into the Fall.

For residential development, we currently have 2 single family dwellings under construction, and we had 1 more modular home placed in Triland Court this year. We are going to be kicking of September with 6 new single-family dwellings and 4 duplexes, which are going to be filling vacant lots on Clement Road. With these new dwellings, that leaves us only 5 serviced lots left on Clement Road.

One of the duplexes is going to built for health care housing to go with our existing duplex for doctors housing. This is all possible because of the generous donation of 1 million dollars from Lanigan Ambulance Association. This will set us up to have 4 dwelling units for doctors as well as any other health care professionals that come to Lanigan.

We are also working with another developer on an 18–24 unit multi family housing project that is proposed for 2026, along with 2 more duplexes in 2026.

We are now working on servicing plans for Dertell Crescent, which is the next phase of the subdivided lots on Clement Road and Parcel K, which is the property north of the Life Point church, south of the Lanigan pool. These areas will be developed to create more residential lots for single family and multi family dwellings, setting us up for increasing demand for new housing and the future of Lanigan.

On the commercial development front, we have sold a vacant infill lot on Main Street to develop a new commercial building. This ties in with Council’s vision to revitalize Main Street. Other commercial development prospects and enquiries are on the rise!

The Lanigan Daycare Project is well underway with site work and foundation construction happening as we speak. We have a target completion date of February 2026. Stayed tuned for some upcoming fundraisers from the day care board.

The Shell/DQ project is well underway with site work and foundation construction with a proposed completion contemplated for some time late fall/early winter.

School demolitions are progressing and the site prep for the front of the new school is under way, which is sure changing the landscape of the school grounds.

I want to reiterate that the recent BHP news about the Jansen mine becoming operational mid 2027 rather than late 2026 and the BHP Stage 2 being deferred by 2 years to 2031 does not negatively impact Lanigan. In fact, it helps us with some additional breathing space for development readiness. Our growth strategies consider a much bigger picture than any one development in the region. Besides BHP’s new mine, Nutrien Lanigan Potash has been around for over 60 years, and the Aspen Power Station is under construction. We have a strong local and regional agricultural community and economy with significant local and regional agricultural industry.

Investment confidence and interest in Lanigan continues to grow and we will continue to focus our efforts on investment retention and attraction. We are continuing to build on development readiness as we welcome new commercial and residential development in Lanigan. We are looking forward to a prosperous future! Thrive in Lanigan is our motto and it is ringing through load and clear!

We hope for a very long fall with great weather so that our local farmers have a bountiful and successful harvest.

Kind Regards,

- Mayor Tony Mycock
